Cheltenham Writers’ Circle comprises a group of local writers who wish to develop their skills be it as prose, poetry or play writing.
The objective of the Circle is to provide a sociable and supportive atmosphere for writers of all standards from beginners to professionals, to present their work to others and to receive feedback and constructive comment.
We meet every other Monday starting from January 2nd at Parmoor House, Lypiatt Terrace, Cheltenham where the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. We read our work, share advice and provide constructive criticism, leaving time for informal discussion over coffee or tea and biscuits. We are set a different subject to write about at home for nearly every meeting. 2017 Diary January – June If you don’t require that subject just write on what you want and come and read it out.
This year we have decided to launch a national writing competition in order to challenge both the nation’s writers and those of Gloucestershire to produce their highest standards of work and to increase awareness of the Cheltenham Writers’ Circle.
For the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death, we decided that the theme for our initial competition should be “What You Will”, giving writers the freedom to showcase their best work on the subjects closest to their hearts.
If you would like to join us just come along to Parmoor House one Monday at 7.30. The dates of our meetings are advertised in the Cheltenham Arts Council quarterly publication Perspectives, which is widely distributed throughout Cheltenham, and are listed below.
